Transformar Mentorship Program emerges as a unique program that encourages students to explore intercultural education, identity, danza, ceremonies, and special gatherings, through community-based approaches and interdisciplinary thinking. This program will help participating students link their cultural background and sense of identity to their academic experience, and/or professional aspirations. The program includes two semesters of mentoring and learning that will begin during the fall semester and conclude at the end of the spring semester. Transformar students will also have the opportunity to participate in a two-week summer Study Abroad trip to Mexico.
- Engage in discussions of social impact, power dynamics of social engagement, and learn how to develop practical strategies to manage and develop ideas and/or academic projects
- Engage with a community of peers & explore your own sense of self & cultural identity
- Receive meaningful personal & intellectual mentorship to guide participants through their freshman and sophomore year.
- $600 scholarship upon successful completion of program
- Opportunity to participate in a summer study abroad trip to Mexico!
- Must be a UNM freshman and sophomore student enrolled full time in the fall & spring semesters.
- Be able to attend all programming sessions in fall and spring semesters.
- Applicants must meet 1 of 3 of the following criteria:
- Member of an underrepresented ethnic group in higher education
- First generation college student
- Eligible for Pell or State Aid
- Participate in cultural workshops & events hosted by El Centro. (Some may be off campus)
- Actively participate to the learning process and embrace new knowledge
